Sebastian Medina - Pandemonium / Deep Sky - markjazz
I'll write a review about this since I've received some emails about it. I made this mix for an "Intro/Outro" type set for a noise show back in late 2007. A lot of people liked it so I made a few copies for friends, I think about 10 or 15 in the Edmonton, Alberta, Canada area. I enjoy this mix a lot and I think it's one of the best I've done. I used a different name because I was doing a noise project under another name at the time and didn't want to be associated with this mix. Long story short. This mix is pretty rare and I would love to do another run of say 50 copies of this but sadly I don't own the first part anymore as I never backed it up. Still have the second part though and I play it all the time still.
Na-Goyah - Fade Out - djnickriviera
Great new release by one of my favorite artists, Na-Goyah.

His new anthem release, "Fade Out" (A1 track) samples a guitar riff from "Street Spirit" by Radiohead. While the lyrics have been copied from "Street Spirit" as well, they are not performed by Thom Yorke (lead singer of Radiohead). Instead, they have been redone specifically for this song/cover/remix.

The other two tracks on this release are quite solid, but "Fade Out" will no doubt be played by all the big mainstyle Hardcore jocks for years.
Weller-Quartett - docacer
The Weller Quartet must be the youngest on the international scene. It was founded in 1959, wehn Weller was 20 and Beinl, the oldest member of the group was 31. Yet it has behind it a long tradition of Austrian music-making, because all four are the sons of professional musicians, all studied in Vienna and all are members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (of which Weller is a Concert Master). The Quartet's annual Cycle of concerts in Vienna's Konzerthaus is always sold out. Apat from this it has already toured in several couintries and played in the Wiener festwochen. It is among the eight leading quartets from Europe and America which have been invited to take part in the Prague Spring Festival in 1965.
Gilette Wilson & Milk-E-Way - Coming From The Heart - MilkyFred
This is a nice song, nice female singer and a very good German producer Thomas "Tom" Hirschberg, known as well for the "Cozmo Vitelli" Techno tracks, the "Liquid Sky" tracks as "Straight up in the sky" (you know that Nasa sound?), "Hello to your Soul"" and "Housenation" ( Direct Effect Rec SPV) from the later 90ies and early 21 century - all as imported records to buy in USA record stores, where club hits in the US techno "understanding" communities of NYC, Friso, Chicago and Miami (forget the rest of the states). As these tracks had the at that time fashionable 150bpm he made remixes from most of the tracks in the last years rating the bpm to 125-130 bpm, new cuts and remastered to a more groovy sound. Very good made and would be played a lot in the well known clubs in Berlin, Amsterdam etc.
Coming back to "Coming From the Heard", sung by New York black female singer Gilette Wison I still like it very much. The mixes are very different comparng to the "Love the life" mix was and still be played often by German, Dutch and other European radio stations and internet. The 2 mixes with the Snap touch are very well regarding to the sampled guitars and the groove. a short mix and a long one for dance floor there is the Club mix which has not so much to do with the other versions it`s made groovy as well and if you know the original song you check ah, it`s that tune. It was played in every club around nothern Europe mostly in Germany, but to my suprise I heard it in the Lime Wire Club in New York too. The song beside the follow up "Walking on sunshine" (not that one from this English band: I forgot the name) "Coming from the Heard" was high in the German charts and dance charts under the first 20ies for a lot of weeks as well as in some other countries it is still a good piece of intelligent made piece of music on the edge of commercial and club culture. The Milky-E-Way was Tom Hirschberg on it`s own doing every part of production by him self as he had mad former records like the "LeSOTO" project "Crack in the Mirror" (SPV or EMI). This record shows the composing talent of Tom Hirschberg and the Synth pop band "Softparade". I have a lot records and Cd`s from producer Tom Hirschberg. I read shortly in a dance magazine he is making music for TV, Films etc. and now working on an album under the name "Tell Cinncinaty" which I read will be a fusion between techno, songs, different singers and instrumentel tracks, maybe similar a bit to "Groove Armada", for which he made remixes some time under the the name "Ziggy von Sandyzell", as well as for "Biosphere" and for DOP (english Tech House project) and some more. Listen to "Coming from the Heard". It`s fine and somehow timeless and immortible. Look forward to releases from Tom Hirschberg and listen to the remixes from "Liquid Sky". you would not imagine he`s a guy from Hanover, from where the Skorpions are - urrg! As far as I read anywhere he changed to Berlin a while ago. Enjoy! MilkyFred
Various - Demonstrations Vol. 1 - m.lander
A wonderful example of the innovative swedish electonic music scene of the mid 90ies. A collection of at-home-made pieces of undiscovered upcomers, compiled by a local techno dj pete m_lander, that togehter with ambient henrik strömberg, dj 1s, hosted the very local (Gothenburg city only), but yet extremely popular radio show for underground electronica; "hq".

An impressive mix of styles and a suprisingly high quality. Some trax may sound a bit outdated a decade later, but if you get the chance to get a copy in your hands, listen especially to Qwertyuiop's both track, suggestive trancey progressive house with carpets of percussion that would fill any dancefloor at any time, Beagle Beat's "James Bond", or Sir Martin Toystore's Earth, mid 90ies techno build on a EBM-platform and "contaminated" with acid... Finish with the triple of timeless ambient: Techlevel, Epicurean and finally the fantastic Cygnus Plasm by Nubia Archade! Enjoy.
M_nus - aaron606
I would have to partly agree with the above review and partly disagree with it. Of course this is just my opinion. M_nus is no doubt a label that houses many talents, however, just because these guys, Richie Hawtin, in particular have done incredible things in the past, thier best days are definetly behind them. I remember seeing him DJ and play live back in the early to mid 90's and it was mind blowing. Now I wouldn't give him the time of day. His tracks are boring. The whole m_nus label has nothing on early plus 8 and Probe stuff. Those labels were when techno tracks actually stood out from one another and had an identity from one another. Now this whole minimal thing has gone a bit far, it's time to make techno again. The good shit. The stuff that uses classic gear, none of this software bullshit. M_nus is not the only label that suffers from this though, I would have to say that at least 90% of techno in the last 10 years is completly disposable....I blame it on laptops..Everyone and thier brother thinks they are techno producers now just because everyone owns a laptop! That's my 2 cents....
Miles Davis - The Complete On The Corner Sessions - markjazz
The album jazz critics had to grow to love has been released on a lovely boxset and like it has been mentioned before these also include tracks from the albums 'Big Fun' and 'Get Up With It'. Infact the only track that doesn't appear on this set from 'Get Up With It' is 'Honky Tonk'. The whole 6 cd set is included with a 120 page booklet that's a quick read as half of it is pictures and various drawnings, info and credits about the 'On The Corner Sessions'. One problem I have with the book is that it's attached to the spine of the same box that holds the cd's. So you have to lug the whole thing around if you want to just read the book. Other than that the box is very nice. It's a golden tin that has the people from the album cover of 'On the Corner' but in a raised profile.

Getting to the music now. Like I said earlier it contains tracks from two others albums and these tracks are in their remastered form as well. Example; disc four contains the two 30+ minute tracks featured on the album 'Get Up With It'. I make this point because if you already own 'Get Up With It' and 'Big Fun' there's really no incentive to buy this set, unless your a mad collector. I didn't own those two other albums so this was an easy buy for me. I think I would have rather had them include live versions from the tracks on the 'On the Corner' album but I'm ok with what they did in the long run. There is also included a few unreleased tracks like 'Jabali', 'Chieftain' and 'Hip-Skip', which are all great tracks and fit the original albums sound nicely.

So what does "On The Corner" mean? Every time I look at this I can't help but this of the movie 'Taxi Driver' and seeing all the odd and interesting characters that walk the streets and stand at the corner. That's what this album means to me as far as visuals and I think that's what Miles Davis was looking for and the audience he was focusing on too. Maybe I'm wrong but every time I play a track from this album I think of New York City and the funk and fusion that went along with it during the 70's, good or bad. This boxset is a must have for the fusion jazz fan and although it's a bit pricey you won't have any regrets after you purchase it.
Paradox - Too Dissimilar / Idiosyncrasies - Gljivko1984
Although I don't usually write reviews and recommendations, this piece of vinyl is worth to have in collection because it shows how intelligent drum and bass can be (or at least it was).

The track "Idiosyncrasies" on this release has one of the most unique drum loops I've ever heard in d'n'b and I've heard a lot of them. It's almost on the edge of IDM. The bass line is very deep (your sub-woofer will like it) but the rhythm is what plays major role on this release.

Highly recommended to those who like intelligent stuff.
Contemporary Quartet : Marcin Oleś, Bart Oleś, Rudi Mahall, Mircea Tiberian - Plays Music Of Bacewicz, Kisielewski, Komsta, Lutosławski, Penderecki - Ludwik
The international project "Penderecki... jazz" (2002) combines contemporary music and jazz. This unique project was created under the honorary patronage of Krzysztof Penderecki. Outstanding musicians like Romanian pianist Mircea Tiberian, German clarinet player Rudi Mahall, bass player and percussionists Marcin and Bartlomiej Oles fused Penderecki's compositions with jazz .These must have been very heady days indeed when 'serious composers' like Stockhausen and Penderecki could find a common ground with jazz players like those above. For whatever reasons the Classical composers were finding that their interests and working methods (structured improvisation, graphic scores, conduction and gesture as composition) were overlapping with like-minded musicians from an altogether different area, that of free jazz. "Actions" often sounds more overtly 'jazz' than that group; there are episodes that showcase the explosive playing of guitarist Terje Rypdal and saxophonist Brotzmann that will make your hair stand on end. This CD also includes interpretations of compositions by other contemporary Polish composers such as Grazyna Bacewicz, Witold Lutoslawski, Stefan Kisielewski and Marzena Komsta"
( from label's liner notes )
Physics Feat. Alexandra* - Don't Deny Me Love - masiak
Martinez remix is worth itself the price of the record. Awesome sax-line, blended with deep house elements (pads, stabs etc) and break-style drums.
This remix is without any doubt a masterpiece.

A1 is a good piece of house, it can't be really considered deep house, except for its fat bassline. Otherwise a great tune to cross between deep and house stuff.

Jay-J mixes are good, but Martinez remix can destroy any competition, so for its misfortune he had a good couple of remixes, but they can't be in any way compared with Martinez one. He choose the wrong 12" :D
